MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The man accused of dousing his estranged wife with gasoline and setting her on fire faced a judge Wednesday morning.

Investigators said 47-year-old Noel Garcia De Armas started the fire Monday morning after the couple had a dispute in a parking lot in plantation.

At some point, they say, he poured gasoline on her and set her on fire while inside a red Honda before he drove off in a white Ford F-350 dually Super Crew cab pick-up truck.

A nurse arriving to work at a nearby clinic jumped in to help.

Rescue crews rushed the woman to Jackson Memorial Hospital's burn unit with burns over a large portion of her body. At last check, she was in critical condition.

Investigators believed De Armas may have been trying to get out of the country.

The Broward County judge denied bond for De Armas on his most serious charges, which include premeditated attempted murder.
