MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) -- The driver accused of hitting a boy on his bicycle and leaving the scene went in front of a judge Thursday.

Milton Anthony Walker, 63, faces several charges including failure to remain at the scene of an accident involving serious injury and failure to render aid.

Seven-year-old Jayden McFarlane was struck by a van while riding his bike in front of his Miramar home on November 20th. A neighbor's surveillance camera captured the crash.

Jayden suffered a concussion, broken collarbone and a swollen foot. He was released from the hospital a week ago.

His mother is happy her son is OK and thankful that the alleged driver turned himself in to police.

"I don't know what came over this guy or what happened, but whatever happened, I'm glad he turned himself in and he admitted what he did," Felissa McFarlane said.

Walker's attorney, Terry Moons, said his client didn't realize he struck the child. On his way to work at Port Everglades, Walker told police he thought he hit a garbage can.

Walker has posted a $5,000 bond.

CBS4's Carey Codd caught up Walker as he left jail.

Codd asked him if there was anything he wanted to say to the 7-year-old boy that he is accused of hitting, but he would only say to speak to his attorney.

Walker faces three felony charges.
