Major Marijuana Operation Busted In Southwest Dade

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A major marijuana operation has been discovered in southwest Miami-Dade.

Overnight police raided three homes believed to be used to grow the illegal weed.

Dozens of garbage bags were stuffed with pot all grown, officials said, in the Redlands.  Early Wednesday morning the Miami Dade Police Narcotics team seized close to 1,400 pounds of pot in three separate locations.

In one home, at 204th Street and 172nd Avenue in the Redlands, police found an elaborate hydroponics lab which was well-organized. The lab which seemed professionally set was in a dome-shaped hanger in the middle of the property.

Police seized approximately 900 pounds of pot plants. The plants were being grown in approximately 50 large containers in the structure.

In total, police said they seized anywhere between 1,400 to 1,600 pounds of marijuana plants and several firearms.

CBS4's Marybel Rodriguez found one of the few neighbors in the area and he said he was stunned to hear that this type of operation was going on near his business.

"Wow, that is ridiculous in this neighborhood," said Mohammed Letiff.

Several people were taken into custody and one was arrested. Firearms were also found  and more pot busts could follow.
