MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A maintenance worker was rushed to the hospital Thursday after a pipe exploded outside a Miami courthouse.

According to courthouse spokesperson Pam Regula, a maintenance mechanic was performing his weekly routine of changing a filter cartridge for the fountain located in front of the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building.

When he removed the cartridge, the pipe burst.

The worker was taken to hospital for his injuries. His condition is currently unknown.

Video from inside Judge Mindy Glazer's courtroom captured her reaction to the blast.

"Uh, that didn't sound good," she said as she gritted her teeth.

"What was that?" someone is heard asking the judge.

"I don't know, but I'm gonna get out of here," Glazer responded. "I think we need to stop court while we find out what it was. We are taking a recess, real quick."

While Glazer seemed rattled, Vanessa Hernandez – who was in court for a domestic violence case – didn't even flinch.

As Glazer composed herself before walking out, she asked if she could finish Hernandez's stay-away order so she could bond out.

Courthouse operations have not been affected.
