Locals Honor Lives Lost, Promote Safety On Krome Ave

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A local organization honored the lives lost and those who have saved lives on Krome Avenue in West Miami-Dade.

Krome Avenue is a two-lane road that stretches 37 miles from U.S. 27 N to U.S.1 near Homestead.

The memorial was held Saturday by Lost Lives of Krome Foundation.

Not only did they remember those lost, they also honored those who helped save lives in dangerous situations.

The event was also meant to raise awareness of Krome's unsafe conditions and put pressure on future and permanent improvements. They also want to raise funds to put up a moment on Krome to honor those who lost their lives.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Krome Avenue was the site of 1,800 accidents between 2008 and 2012, including 28 fatalities - an average of at least five fatalities a year.
