Zoo Miami Attempts To Create Pride
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A group of lion cubs and their mother will be united with a male lion in hopes of creating the first, complete pride at Zoo Miami on Sunday.
The move will be historic for the 35-year old institution, according to officials at the zoo.
"Jabari," the adult male lion, will be officially united and exhibited with "Kashifa" and her five cubs, "Saba," "Bantu," "Asani," "Amirah," and the adopted male, "Kwasi," son of Kashifa's late sister, "Asha" on Sunday at 10:00 AM as a special tribute to Father's Day.
It's not certain if Jabari is the father of the cubs but, according to zoo officials, it is possible because only he and his brother had access to her.
Sunday will not be the first time the group has been together.
Zoo officials gradually introduced Jabari to Kashifa and her cubs for several hours over the past week.
Kashifa welcomed Jabari who then went up to the cubs but was met with a hiss and a swipe from them since they were initially not comfortable with him.
Zoo officials said Jabari is a model dad and was, for the most part, accepting of the cubs.
