Lightning Strikes Boat Parked Behind Bay Point Home

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A boat owner is blaming mother nature for a fire that ripped through a boat at Bay Point.

It happened Thursday, July 21st, near 42nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard.

Miami Fire Rescue arrived to find the 39-foot boat engulfed in flames. Thick smoke could be seen from several blocks away.

The owner said she saw a lightning bolt strike the boat.

Crews were able to put out the fire after about a half an hour.

Investigators, along with the U.S. Coast Guard, are trying to confirm the fire's cause.
