Liberty City Mural Depicts Realities Of Urban Life

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A new mural painted on the side of OneUnited Bank's Miami branch was unveiled over the weekend.

"Thunder & Enlightening" is the work of Liberty City based artist Addonis Parker who said it depicts racism and the harsh realities of urban life.

Among the images depicted are a church with nine doves which symbolizes the Charleston church murders, the Statue of Liberty holding a microphone instead of a torch, Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown.

Twenty one students from Miami's inner city worked with Parker as apprentices on the project.

Teri Williams, President of OneUnited Bank hired Parker with the request that he follow the themes of "freedom and hope" and truthfully represent life as it's really lived in poor, urban communities.
