Layoffs, Cuts Coming To Wounded Warriors Project

JACKSONVILLE (CBSMiami/AP) — In the wake of controversy over the way it spent donations, layoffs are coming to the veterans charity group Wounded Warrior Project.

Michael Linnington, took over as CEO of the Jacksonville-based nonprofit in July, said there will also be cuts to funding for smaller veterans groups as part of their restructuring.

The charity employs 600 people. Allegations from employees, veterans and charity watchdogs about its wasteful spending were reported in January by The New York Times and CBS News.

Linnington said details about the restructuring will be announced in September, but employees know some jobs and some executives' salaries will be cut.

Linnington said his salary is $280,000 or about $193,000 less than the previous CEO's salary, according to the most recent tax documents available.
