Lawmaker Pushes For Computer Coding In Schools

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) -- A former Yahoo executive-turned state senator has proposed a bill that would require high schools to offer computer-coding courses to students.

The bill (SB 468), filed by Sen. Jeremy Ring, D-Margate, calls for district school boards to have a computer-coding curriculum in place by Jan. 1, 2017.

Courses would allow students to earn two credits in place of foreign-language instruction and achieve related industry certification.
