Lauderhill Labor Day Weekend party billed as "Bikini Day Soiree" ends in triple shooting
FORT LAUDERDALE - Three people were taken to the hospital after an early morning shooting in Lauderhill.
It began as a fun Labor Day weekend party billed as "Bikini Day Soiree" in a parking lot across from the Lauderhill Mall.
Then it turned chaotic, as people ran for their lives after someone opened fire.
"We just seen everybody running. We were so confused then we heard the shots. everybody took off here from the side. It was crazy, they were trampling people," said Keiana McDonald. She was there with her sister. "We had to get out of here because we didn't know who the shooter was and we didn't want to get caught in the crossfire. We didn't know if he was going to shoot again.
As she ran for cover, one of the men who was hit raced up to her.
"I been shot, I been shot," he said. "Where? Where?" McDonald asked. "I been shot! In my head. Did I get shot?" the victim asked. "Yes, you did, oh my God," McDonald said.
Later, we ran into a woman off-camera who identified herself as a relative. She said he's okay. Two others were shot including a woman who had been shot in the shoulder.
A third person arrived at Florida Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head.
"It was like we came here to have a good time, we can't even enjoy ourselves to see who we came to see because you guys bring this type of stuff to an event," McDonald said.
The promoter, Ice Cream Exclusives, released a statement on Instagram saying in part that they, "...took all the necessary measures to have adequate security and followed all necessary protocols."
It continued, "...we are reviewing our entire security protocol and procedures. We will be working closely with professional security providers and law enforcement..."
Police are trying to determine what led to the shooting and who's responsible.
