FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A Ft. Lauderdale man was charged with cruelty after he allegedly dragged a pit bull pup across a parking lot by its neck.

It happened Monday at 1905 NW 21st Avenue.

Witnesses said Reginald Ware, 26, picked up a pit bull, who appeared to be about two months old, by the neck and began to choke it. He then tied a nylon stocking around its neck and dragged it across a parking lot, according to his arrest report.

Ft. Lauderdale police say when their officers arrived, the dog had scrape marks on its paws, was missing fur and appeared to be very malnourished.

Ware was taken into custody and charged with animal cruelty and the dog was turned over Animal Services for treatment.
