Police: 2 Detained, Questioned In Possible Armed-Robbery Involvement At SW Miami-Dade Bank

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Two people have been detained and are being questioned on their involvement in an armed robbery that forced a bank and nearby schools into lockdown Wednesday afternoon.

Police swarmed a shopping center at Flagler and 92nd Street in the Fontainebleau neighborhood blocking off a TD Bank.

Police said the bank itself was not robbed but a man withdrawing money was. The armed robbery happened Tuesday, and the suspects got away.

On Wednesday, a similar vehicle showed up at the bank, prompting a massive response.

"The victim had come to make a withdrawal at the bank. From that point, this victim got in his vehicle and drove to dry cleaners," says Angel Rodriguez, PIO with Miami-Dade Police.

The man withdrew what appeared to be a substantial amount of money and police said he left the bank with a bag of cash. Little did the victim know, he was being followed.

"The victim was followed by two individuals in a black Chrysler 300 with a paper tag," said Rodriguez.

After he was done at the dry cleaners, he got back in his car.

"Two suspects approached him, pointed a gun at him and racked the firearm twice, demanding the bag of money, the victim had," said Rodriguez.

The suspects took the money and left.

The victim fled the scene uninjured.

Luckily for police, a vehicle matching the description of the one the suspects were in showed up at the same TD Bank.

"They received information from bank personnel of a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in yesterday's robbery, was parked outside the bank," said Rodriguez.

Out of an abundance of caution, police said additional specialized units responded to the scene.

Schools nearby were placed on lockdown while police investigated and two people were detained.

"These individuals are being detained and questioned to see what involvement if any, they have with yesterday's armed robbery," said Rodriguez.

Police were able to find a live round at the dry cleaners that was taken into evidence. They told CBS4 News, the two people inside the car in question, are being questioned.
