ISLAMORADA (CBSMiami) -- Authorities have arrested a man who allegedly tried to kill his neighbor in his backyard.
Officials said the victim, Hector Vasquez, 36, called police Thursday morning, saying he had been stabbed with a knife.
When deputies arrived to a home at 82207 Overseas Highway, they found the suspect, Juan Carlos Ocampo Medina, 38, nearby.
Two witnesses said Medina invited them and the victim to his house for a drink. However, once in the backyard, they said Medina attacked Vasquez with a knife, cutting his neck and abdomen.
One of the witnesses was able to get the knife away from him but Medina allegedly then grabbed a shovel and hit Vasquez in the back of the head.
Vasquez was treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital.
Medina was charged with premeditated attempted murder.
None of the men revealed to police the reason for the attack.
