GULFPORT, Miss. (CBSMiami/AP) — A Florida man was arrested for DUI in Mississippi after he allegedly caused an accident that sent a police officer and another driver to the hospital.
Gulfport Police Sgt. Damon McDaniel told multiple news outlets two officers responded to a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 around 6:50 a.m. Friday.
McDaniel said Zachary Kapua, 28, of Key West, Florida, was eastbound and struck the rear of a small SUV.
He says the SUV went across lanes and struck the police car. The officer and driver of the SUV were taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life threatening.
Kapua was charged with driving under the influence.
