Karl Expected To Strengthen, Julia Forms Into Tropical Depression

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Karl is expected to strengthen by next, meanwhile, Julia's shower activity is strong enough to be considered a tropical depression.
At 5 p.m., the center of Karl's system was about 1,410 miles east of the Leeward Islands.
Karl was moving west at 13 mph. This general motion is expected to continue during the next two days.
Maximum sustained winds were near 45 mph with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 240 miles, primarily to the northeast of the center.
Julia is moving toward the northwest at 1 mph, with a slow motion toward the northwest and north expected during the next couple of days.
Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph with higher gusts.
Little change in strength is forecast for both systems during the next 48 hours.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
