Jungle Island Hosts Underprivileged Kids For Back-To-School Event

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- More than 2,500 underprivileged youth were given new clothes and makeovers at the sixth annual Style Saves' back-to-school event at Jungle Island.

On Saturday, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho and Deputy Mayor Russell Benford greeted students at the event, all of whom are living in migrant camps, homeless shelters and foster homes.

Along with help from Voices For Children, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Communities In Schools of Miami, Lotus House and Irie Foundation, the kids not only got to experience the joy of back-to-school shopping (and not having to pay) but were treated to mini-manicures, haircuts, interactive games, and arts & crafts.

Students also got to embark on fun, educational discoveries of the park's animals, shows and exhibits.
