MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The Jungle Island family is getting a new addition just in time for the summer.

Its pink flamingos are expecting babies, staff announced Friday.

"This is exciting for us and we are eagerly standing by for baby flamingos to be born," says Dr. Jason Chatfield, vice president of zoological operations.

The flamingos have laid a total of seven eggs. Staff say both the mother and father are keeping a watchful eye and taking turns to incubate the eggs by sitting on them.

It takes about 27 to 31 days from the time the flamingo lays the egg to when it hatches.

Flamingos are born white, then turn grey and only start turning rosy after a year.
