Judge Delays Decision On Key Evidence In Facebook Murder Case

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - There a was a hearing Wednesday on a key piece of evidence in the case of the so-called Facebook killer.
Derek Medina, who appeared gaunt and unshaven, stood quietly as his defense filed a motion for his in-house surveillance video and hard drive be sent off to an out-of-state expert to review. The defense argued that there may be video from upstairs on the day of the shooting, possibly a heated fight between Medina and his wife, which would be crucial to their case.
"There may be evidence in terms of how this incident started that's relevant to our defense," said attorney Saam Zangeneh.
Circuit Court Judge Yvonne Colodny delayed her ruling on the matter until January 5th so both parties can figure out who was going to pay for it and how this key piece of evidence would be safely transported to Washington state.
Medina was charged with first degree murder in the August 2013 murder of his wife Jennifer Alfonso in their south Miami-Dade home. Medina posted a picture of her body on Facebook and made a claim that he acted in self-defense.
