South Florida Hospitals Reevaluate Non-Emergency Procedures To COVID-19 Surge
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - South Florida hospitals are reevaluating elective, non-emergency procedures due to the increase in coronavirus cases.
Jackson Health System announced Wednesday, "As Jackson Health System continues to see a steady increase in the number of COVID-19 patients being admitted to our hospitals, we will limit inpatient surgeries and procedures to emergency and urgent cases only, effective next Monday, July 6..."
Memorial Healthcare System officials also said they will only perform emergency or urgent surgeries, as well as outpatient procedures that do not require hospitalization.
Baptist Health South Florida said, "Elective surgeries and procedures at our hospitals requiring overnight stays are being evaluated daily across our inpatient facilities based on the capacity of each hospital. We will communicate directly with any patient whose surgery or procedure may need to be rescheduled. Any surgery or procedure that is taking place in an outpatient location will not be impacted at this time."
Area hospitals are freeing up beds in case they are needed.
CBS4 reached out to Mercy Hospital, Aventura Hospital, and Kendall Regional Hospital, but they had no comment.
