MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami International Airport was evacuated Friday after a suspicious package was found in the Checkpoint J-Central security check point.

By 8:00 p.m., the concourse was reopened to passengers.

The Miami-Dade Bomb Squad was called out to investigate the package and remove it from the area.

Passengers in the J-Central area were evacuated to the exterior of the airport for a more than an hour.

Many passengers said they were not told what was going on at the security check point.

CBS4 News reporter Brian Andrews was at the airport during the evacuation and learned a TSA employee was the person who spotted the package around 6 p.m.

The Miami-Dade Police Department removed the package for further examination, said an MDPD official.
