FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) — A Delray Beach couple who went on a shopping spree using thousands in counterfeit cash will be doing time in federal prison.

Last week, 35-year-old Bernardo Lecaros was sentenced to more than two years in prison. His partner, 23-year-od Mariana Cordova Ortiz, got eight months.

Both previously pleaded guilty to passing and using counterfeit money. Authorities say Lecaros spent about $5,400 of the fake cash at a casino in Hollywood and, along with Ortiz, bought luxury items at the Palm Beach Gardens Mall.

Investigators later found more than $69,000 in counterfeit money in Lecaros' possession. Court records don't detail where the bogus money came from.
