OPA LOCKA (CBSMiami) -- Miami-Dade Police released homicide flyers as they search for the person behind a violent attack that left one man dead and two others critically injured in Opa-Locka.
Family members of the man killed gathered at the crime scene overnight looking for answers, trying to figure out why Jonas Covington-- a 27-year old father of three-- was taken from them.
"There's nothing that they can tell us. They just tell us we have to stay and talk to a detective right now," said Rosetta Covington, the victim's aunt.
Officers said they received a call saying three people had been shot in an apartment complex located at 165 Kalandar Street on Tuesday just before 7 p.m.
When they arrived, officers said they found 28-year old Antron Shaw collapsed in the hallway of the apartment. The man had been shot and stabbed, police said.
They went on to follow a trail of blood to an apartment where they discovered 28-year old Mercedes Dixon stabbed and Covington dead.
Rescue crews rushed the injured woman and man to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Police detained one man at the scene. He was questioned as a witness to the events and is not considered a suspect.
A motive is unknown at this time, police said. The relationship between the three victims is unknown.
