Investigation Ongoing After Officer Shoots, Kills Driver During Traffic Stop

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An investigation is underway into a police involved shooting in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Police has only released a very limited amount of information.

According to police, there is one confirmed death in the shooting.

The scene is located in the area of 16000 Northwest 7th Avenue.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the call of shots fired and Miami-Dade Police joined in assistance.

Authorities say the incident stemmed from a traffic stop made by the officer near the Park & Ride at the Golden Glades interchange.

This led to a confrontation, police say, and the officer shot the driver who was sitting in their car. A white, four-door BMW was at the scene.

The driver has died, but police has yet to release any information on their name, race or gender.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
