MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – An investigation is underway to determine what sparked a fire at a Miami Beach hotel that caused what officials describe as significant damage to the property.

Miami Beach Fire Department firefighters were called out to the Lily Hotel on Collins Ave. and 8th St. to reports of a possible air conditioning fire.

Both tourists and locals expressed concerned about the blaze, as they watched firefighters bring the fire under control.

"Very concerned, the smoke was taking over the whole street," said Amy Roman, who shot cell phone video of the smoke billowing from the hotel.

"It was chaos and then the police cleared the streets," said Steve Frank, who was visiting from Austin, Texas.

Miami Beach Fire officials say everyone had already evacuated by the time they arrived.

The property suffered significant damage.

"Two rooms on the first floor were fully involved, a lot of flame damage and then the second story has smoke damage," said Miami Beach Fire Capt. Javier Otero.

According to officials, the hotel has relocated the guests who were staying there.  No injuries were reported.
