Hurricane Hermine Caused $80 Million In Damages

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - Florida's property-insurance industry didn't take a serious blow from Hurricane Hermine, which whipped through the state the first week of September.

Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier told Gov. Rick Scott and the Cabinet on Tuesday that as of last Friday 205 insurance companies operating in the state had received 14,890 claims, which are expected to cost the industry about $80 million, Altmaier said.

"Those are numbers that we expect to fluctuate over the next several weeks to months as the claims adjustment process unfolds," Altmaier said. "As you would expect after a Category 1 storm, those numbers don't appear to put any particular company in any kind of financial duress."
