Hundreds Of People Take A Walk To Help End Lupus
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Hundreds of people took to the the streets Saturday to help end Lupus.
The 2014 South Florida Fall Walk to End Lupus Now will took place Saturday at Jungle Island in Miami.
CBS4's Michael Smith strapped on his sneakers for the cause.
The annual walk hosted by the Lupus Foundation of America Florida Chapter raises money to find a cure for the mysterious autoimmune disease as well as increases awareness of lupus and rallies public support for those who suffer from it.
Lupus affects 1 in every 185 individuals nationwide and more than 100,000 people in Florida. It can strike any organ in the body with life-threatening consequences.
Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen also took part in the event.
To date, there is no known cure. Research is needed to find treatment and a cure.
