KISSIMMEE (CBSMiami/AP) – Hundreds of calves spilled across the Florida turnpike when a tractor-trailer overturned early Wednesday.

A total of 130 calves fell out of the semi and were loose on both ends of the turnpike around 2:30 a.m.

Animal control officials from Osceola County helped herd the cattle. The owner of the overturned tractor-trailer sent another truck to haul the calves away.

Troopers estimate that about half of the calves were killed.

A second crash involving three tractor-trailers and a car created additional traffic problems, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

About an hour later, a Fed-Ex truck failed to slow down as it approached the stopped traffic and collided with another tractor-trailer. Seven people were hurt. None of their injuries was life-threatening.
