HOMESTEAD (CBSMiami) -- A South Florida woman was arrested Thursday after leaving her infant locked inside a hot car.

According to the arrest report, a witness who discovered the baby says she first noticed the car engine running while parked inside the shopping plaza at 947 North Homestead Blvd. When she looked inside, she saw the one-year-old in the back seat sweating profusely with the doors locked and the back windows rolled down just a crack.

As police arrived on scene, they said the child's mother, Sarah Giannamore, 32, exited from a nail salon and became uncooperative with officers, telling them she was only gone a few minutes. Officers confirmed with the nail salon that she was inside getting a manicure.

Giannamore was taken into custody and charged with child neglect.

The baby wasn't hurt and is now being taken care of by a family friend.
