KEY WEST (CBSMiami) - A homeless man who planned to stow away aboard a flight out of Key West never got off the ground.

Jamie Crabtree, 32, was found asleep in a jet parked at Key West Airport Thursday morning by an airline employee.

Crabtree told Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Maureen Smith he arrived by Greyhound bus Wednesday night. He said he jumped the barbed wire fencing around the restricted part of the airport, walked over to a Delta plane parked on the tarmac.

He was able to break the seal on the door to the aircraft and enter the plane. He said he drifted off in the cargo area and was found still sleeping by Delta employees who arrived around 6 a.m.

Crabtree said he intended to stow away on the aircraft because he wanted to leave the country. He was charged with burglary and trespassing on posted airport property.
