MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Dozens of racing yachts will take to the sea Wednesday in a historic race from Miami to Havana.

Nearly 50 racing yachts are set to take off Wednesday afternoon from the Coral Reef Yacht Club headed for Hemingway Yacht Club of Cuba.

The crews will race across the boisterous Gulf Stream in stiff winter winds in their 30 to 70 foot yachts setting their sights on the finishing line.

The Inaugural Miami To Havana Race comes after renewed relations between the United States and Cuba.

The last officially sanctioned race from the U.S. to Cuba was back in 1959.
