CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – Hillary Clinton took the stage at the University of Miami with her daughter Chelsea on Saturday, at the Clinton Global initiative to make another push for equal rights.

Clinton said Saturday's historic 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma Alabama is the perfect time to remind the world that the fight for equality continues and young people must take the lead.

"Whether it's women's rights, human rights or civil rights or LGBT rights, we are counting on all of you to lead the way," said Clinton.

As we head into the 2016 presidential campaign season, this conference is also a platform for Clinton to connect with voters and woman.

"We've gotten more women to contribute to the economic well beings of their families but they're by no means where they should be," she told the crowd.

The former first lady and first daughter gave a preview of their newest initiative the "No Ceiling Project", which measures the gains that woman have made around the world over that past 20 years.  On Sunday they will use their social media sites to raise awareness. They call it the "Not There" effort.

"We will literally not be there tomorrow. We will be blacking out our profile pictures to help generate attention and hopefully engage interest in the ways in which woman still are not there," said Chelsea Clinton.

The Clinton Global Initiative Conference takes place while there is growing controversy about Hillary's use of a private email system for some of her correspondences, rather than using a government issued account during her time as Secretary of State.

The Clinton's are also facing possible backlash because of foreign donors. These issues could be a speed bump in her possible race for the white house. She didn't address those concerns on Saturday, but her husband did.

"I think it's a good thing. For example the U.A.E. gave us money but they are helping fight Isis and they built a great university with NYU," said Bill Clinton. He went on to say, "I believe we've done a lot more good than harm."

Despite criticism from republicans, who believe Clinton acted inappropriately by using a private e-mail, on Saturday President Obama came to her defense saying Hillary Clinton has been a great public servant and acknowledged that Clinton is releasing all of the emails on that private account.
