Hialeah Police Arrest Suspect In Subway Restaurants Robbery Spree

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police have made an arrest in connection to several recent Subway restaurant robberies in Hialeah.

Daitrium Turnbull, 24, has been charged with three counts of robbery, ranging from Strong Arm Robbery to Armed Robbery.

The Subway restaurants were robbed over a three day period.

In each case, police say, the restaurants were robbed at opening or near closing times so there were few or no customers around. The robber wore a dark hooded jacket, dark clothing with his face covered. While he never displayed a weapon, at times he gestured or implied that he had one.

After getting cash from the registers, he drove off in a 1997 Honda which was park near, but away from sight, of the restaurants.

During the course of their investigation Hialeah detectives learned of a recent rash of robberies targeting Subway restaurants and Dunkin Donut locations through-out Dade and Broward Counties. In each case, the suspect and how the robbery took place were similar.

Detectives from Hialeah and Miramar were able to identify Turnbull as the primary suspect and began a round-the-clock surveillance of on him.

On Saturday, May 17th, a surveillance unit watched as he walked into a Subway restaurant located at 1437 NW 163rd Street, in N. Miami Beach, and committed a robbery, according to police.  After a short foot chase, officers used a Taser to subdue him and take him into custody.

Police said evidence and statements from Turnbull during questioning were enough to charge him with three robberies in Hialeah, three robberies in Miami-Dade County and on robbery in North Miami Beach. More charges are expected for the county and North Miami Beach robberies.
