Heyman: Mike Redmond 'Got a Raw Deal'
Moments after Jon Heyman broke the news that GM Dan Jennings will be named the Marlins new manager, the CBS Sports MLB reporter joined the Joe Rose Show on 560 WQAM to break it down.
"It's certainly a surprise move," Heyman said. "They said all along -- at least since Redmond was let go -- that it was a surprise hire.
"And all sorts of guesses throughout the day yesterday and nobody was guessing Jennings. So this is an outside-the-box hire, I don't think there's any question about that."
Heyman called Jennings "a great baseball guy" who is trusted by Jeffrey Loria and well respected throughout baseball. As for the ousted Mike Redmond, Heyman empathizes.
"I think in terms of Redmond, it's fair to say he got a raw deal," Heyman said, "but that's probably par for the course of the managing job."
