PLANTATION (CBSMiami) – Plantation police have saturated an apartment complex as they search for several people who bailed from an SUV and took off running.

CBS4's Carey Codd was told the Plantation Police Department is the lead agency even though this part of the investigation is in Lauderhill.

It's believed that the case originated in Plantation.

Police appear to be focused on a Honda CRV with right front end damage.

Police cars from multiple agencies blocked apartment entrances on the east side of NW 56th Avenue.

It appears that investigators are looking for several people.

One man told Codd he saw at least two young men running from police.

The Broward Sheriff's Office chopper has been circling in the air for about an hour.

Just moments ago, Codd spoke with a mother of two kids who watched it all unfold.

"It's really crazy to see that stuff…especially with kids," she said. "It's kids living all over this neighborhood. It's kind of sad."

It's unknown exactly what unfolded.
