MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Health officials are urging everyone to get vaccinated for the flu.

Millions of people get sick, while hundred of thousands are hospitalized and tens of thousands of people die from the flu and complications related to it every year.

The shot - which should be given to anyone six months of age and up - is meant to help decrease the impact of the contagious disease.

New estimates show about 45 percent of people in the U.S. got a flu vaccine last year.

There was a drop in Americans 65 and older getting vaccinated which officials say is concerning because the group is among those at risk for flu complications.

About 170 million doses of flu vaccine will be available, but not the nasal spray because it's not recommended this season.
