Hammerhead Shark Follows Kayakers

PALM BEACH (CBSMiami) – A couple of kayakers were followed by a hammerhead shark for nearly two miles while paddling their way back to shore after fishing.

The Sun Sentinel reported the 13-foot shark circled the kayaks about 30 times off shore of Palm Beach.

According to the kayakers, the shark bumped into the kayaks a couple of times.

Mark Naumovitz and Brian Nelli said it's not uncommon to see sharks, but to be followed by one with a dorsal fin out of the water is not typical.

The shark tailed the men after they brought in a 16-pound Mahi.

They dropped a GoPro camera underwater to film the shark.

Experts told the paper that the shark was a great hammerhead because of its size and hammerhead sharks have a great sense of smell.

Great hammerheads are the largest of the hammerhead species.
