Haitian Amputees Share Inspiring Story At Vatican

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Three men who lost a leg in Haiti's 2010 earthquake are set to share their inspiring stories at the Vatican.
Wilfrid Macena, Mackenson Pierre and Sandy J.L. Louiseme received prosthetic limbs through "Healing Haiti's Children," an extensive program sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and the University of Miami-affiliated Project Medishare.
The program hires local Haitians to do much of the rehabilitation work. More than 1,000 children have received prosthetic limbs through the program. Some of the amputees have become members of a soccer team composed of amputee athletes from Port au Prince and neighboring villages.
The men will attend a conference called by Pope Francis to focus on the humanitarian catastrophe and its ongoing impact. They will also offer a demonstration of amputee soccer at a K of C soccer field in Rome.
