Gym "Rat" Sought In Deerfield Beach Theft

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A man was caught on camera stealing another man's book bag, clothing and several hundred dollars in cash at a Deerfield Beach gym.

Now the Broward Sheriff's Office has released the video in hopes that someone recognizes him and gives Crime Stoppers a call.

Just before 4:30 p.m. on March 11, Christopher Downs went to work out at L.A. Fitness located at 100 E. Hillsboro Blvd. in Deerfield Beach. He placed his belongings in one of the lockers. During Downs' workout, a man stole items out of the locker including Downs' car keys.

He went out to the parking lot where he used the keys to locate Downs' car. Once in, he stole hundreds of dollars which Downs had thought safe locked inside the car.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said the man they are looking for has an athletic build, short cut dark hair, a short beard and a large tattoo on his forearm which is clearly seen on the security footage.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $3,000 for the tip that leads to an arrest.
