MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami Police are trying to find the person who shot and killed a man overnight and left him to die on an Allapattah sidewalk early Friday morning.

Neighbors said the victim is a young man, possibly in his early 20's but Medical Examiners had not identified him at last check.

Meantime, holes from stray bullets pierce a car and telephone pole in front of the home where police said a man was shot while walking on NW 38th Street at 12th Avenue around 1 a.m.

"You just never know because there are just so many strange things going on these days but what can you do? What can you say? The only  thing you can do is watch your back," said Panchita who lives in the neighborhood.

Crime scene investigators put down dozens of evidence cones and marked shell casings trying to figure out who the victim is and why he was targeted.

The clerk at a gas station nearby said the man had just left the convenience store with a friend when shots rang out.

"I  feel sorry for his mom... he's gone can't bring him back," said the clerk who only identified himself as Nick.

Witnesses say the young victim-- Possibly in his early 20s--was unresponsive. By the time paramedics got to the scene, it was too late.

"I feel bad for his family. I wish all the violence just stopped. People have to bury their own kids. It just needs to stop period," said Nikkia Orange who heard the gunshots.

Detectives still haven't been able to identify a motive. They were looking at surveillance video as part of their investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471 -TIP.
