Gunfire Outside North Miami Barbershop Leaves One Man Hospitalized

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - One man was seriously injured in a shooting Monday outside a barbershop in North Miami.

It happened shortly before 10 p.m. at the intersection of West Dixie Highway and NE 132nd Street.

A witness, who lives across the street from the shopping plaza, said he first heard what he thought were fireworks. He said he went to his balcony and then watched what unfolded in the parking lot of the shop.

"I started to hear boom, boom, boom, boom! That's when I got up right away, took my binoculars and that's when I saw him in this area of the parking lot trying to get away from the other guy. The other guy was chasing him with a gun and shooting at him," said the witness.

Police have not identified the man who was injured. However, a woman who said she was his wife identified him as Daniel Jejuste and said he working at the barbershop when the shooting happened.

He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.

People who know Jejuste said he's worked at the barbershop for several years and described him as a quiet man.

According to the witness, the gunman took off in a newer model black sedan.

"You can not believe it when you see someone shooting at another person. It was scary to see how the gentleman who was trying to get away, trying to avoid the shots to save his life. It was a very scary moment," said the witness.

No arrests have been made in this case.
