Gov. Scott Cancels Dominican Republic Trip

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — Gov. Rick Scott's planned trade mission the Dominican Republic has been canceled.

Enterprise Florida, the state's economic development organization, announced last fall that Scott would make a trip in February to the Caribbean country.

The governor's office said a decision to skip the trip was made several weeks ago.

Since taking office in January 2011, Scott has taken 10 trade related trips. The governor has taken more trips abroad than former Gov. Charlie Crist. Some of the countries he has visited include France, England, Israel, Brazil, Spain, Chile and Colombia.

Scott defends the trips as a way to open doors for Florida-based companies seeking business abroad.
