Gov. Rick Scott In So Florida Talking About High Costs Of College Education

MIAMI LAKES (CBSMiami) - Florida Governor Rick Scott was in South Florida Monday hearing from parents and students about the high cost of college education.

Governor Scott made a campaign style appearance, along with his running mate Carlos Lopez-Cantera, visited Barbara Goleman Senior High School Monday.

"Well right now I'm paying $200 a month in loans that I owe for my education. I have $25,000 in loans." said Jimena Hills. "I can't afford $350 a month to pay for my daughter's pre-paid program."

Scott's moving to boost public education funding this year and reduce college tuition after cutting funding and approving tuition hikes earlier in his administration.

Scott facing a probable contest with Charlie Crist in November was more inclined to talk about the future Monday.

"We have got to figure out how to reduce tuition," Scott said. "So this session, I fought to get rid of the inflationary increase in tuition, get rid of 15 percent differential in tuition—if we do that we're going to make it more affordable."
