Gov. Rick Scott Being Sued Over Finances

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) - Commercials keep calling Gov. "Rick Scott just too shady for the Sunshine State." The governor is now being sued by two men who say Scott is continuing to hide his finances behind a shadowy veil, which by law he must disclose.

George Sheldon announced Wednesday morning that he's asking the court to force Scott to fully disclose all his assets and investments.

Sheldon is challenging incumbent Pam Bondi in November for Florida's attorney general.

The lawsuit comes a few days after the Miami Herald reported that Scott is listed in federal records as controlling trust accounts that aren't listed in financial disclosure documents he is required to file each year with the state.

Scott is also being sued by Jim Apthorp, a longtime aide to former Gov. Reubin Askew, who wants to force the governor to adhere to the letter of a Florida constitutional requirement that elected officials must make a "full and public disclosure" by annually filing "a sworn statement showing net worth and identifying each asset and liability in excess of $1,000 and its value."

Scott's re-election campaign has already maintained that it is in "full compliance" with both state and federal requirements.

Scott has used a "blind trust" for his assets since becoming governor.
