Girlfriend Of Slain Miami Officer Appears In Court

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The woman charged in the murder of a Miami Police officer has pleaded not guilty to her charges.

Tiniko Thompson appeared before a Broward judge Thursday morning.

Looking relaxed in court, Thompson is determined to fight the charges.

Thompson was arrested a month ago on charges she shot and killed her boyfriend Officer Carl Patrick in their Pembroke Pines home.

Thompson claims he shot himself during a fight.

"You're attorney has entered a written plea of not guilty on your behalf. I'm going to accept your plea of not guilty…" said Judge Elizabeth Scherer said Thursday.

Police found Patrick's body May 9th after going to his home to conduct a welfare check. Thompson was arrested weeks later.

CBS4 was first to report days after the shooting that Thompson was seen on surveillance dropping baby items off at a storage facility.

Weeks after Patrick's death, his death was ruled a homicide and Medical Examiner said the wound was not self-inflicted.

Thompson is scheduled to appear again in court August 22nd.
