Girl Drowns Trying To Retrieve Backpack From Pond

ST. PETERSBURG (CBSMiami) — An 11-year old girl who went into a retention pond to get her sister's backpack after it was thrown into the water has died.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said it happened at Seminole Manor.

The girl's friends flagged down a bystander who pulled her from the water. The girl was taken to JFK Medical Center where she died in the emergency room.
