Gainesville Police: Interviews Reveal 1 Of 4 UF Attacks Unfounded

GAINESVILLE (CBSMiami/AP) - Gainesville authorities are saying one of the four reported attacks on women at the University of Florida campus is baseless after multiple interviews with the alleged victim.

On Thursday, University and Gainesville police said the alleged victim backtracked on her initial statement. She had reported she was attacked by the library on September 5th, but has since told  investigators that she was never attacked.

Authorities said the false report has not altered the investigation and still believe one suspect is responsible for the other three attacks on the women.

Gainesville police spokesman Ben Tobias said they have continued to increase patrols and other measures to identify him.

Police are not filing charges against the woman who submitted the false report.
