Funeral Set For 12-Year-Old Girl Who Lost Fight Against Leukemia

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Memorials are set for Briana Vega, the 12-year-old girl who bravely battled Leukemia for two years before losing that battle Monday.

Briana, who just recently turned 12, was diagnosed with leukemia in February 2012, just days after her 10th birthday. She immediately started chemotherapy at Miami Children's Hospital.

Briana was doing well, but last year her cancer returned.

Earlier this month, Briana became too sick to be a candidate for a bone marrow transport.

Briana lost her life Monday. On her Facebook page, "Briana's Warriors", her family wrote, "It is with a huge hole in our heart that we tell you that Briana has passed away this morning....We wanted to take the time to sincerely thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the prayers, love and support throughout this process and the continued support as we celebrate Briana's time she shared with us while here. "

A viewing will be held Thursday from 5 PM to 11 PM at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn at 11655 SW 117 Avenue.

A memorial service is set for Friday at 7 PM at Old Cutler Presbyterian Church in Palmetto Bay.
