France Honors 22 WWII Veterans From Florida

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) —The French consulate is honoring 22 U.S. World War II veterans from Florida with a highly distinguished award.

The French Consul General in Miami will award the veterans on Friday with the "Knight in the National Order of the Legion of Honor" for fighting alongside French troops during the war. The ceremony will be held on board the USS New York at Port Everglades.

The Legion was founded in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte. Notable Americans who have received the award include: Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Dwight D. Eisenhower and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
