FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A close call for a Ft. Lauderdale police officer early Monday after he was shot at while trying to pull a vehicle over.

The officer, who was undercover and on-duty, noticed a vehicle driving through a residential neighborhood which didn't look quite right.

The officer followed the vehicle and when he attempted to pull them over, those inside the vehicle shot at him. The officer did not return fire, according to the police.

The officer chased the vehicle west on SE 17th Street where police were able to stop at SE 23rd Avenue. Two people were taken into custody. A third person who tried to make a break for it on foot was also taken into custody.

Broward Sheriff's deputies arrived and helped Ft. Lauderdale officers set up a perimeter.

An air unit from the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office assisted search teams in locating a fourth suspect who was hiding in a waterway.

Police have not released the names of those taken into custody or indicated what type of charges they'll be facing.
